Previous version of Windows will be automatically deleted from your PC ten days after you upgrade. If it’s been fewer than 10 days, the previous version of Windows will be listed as a system file. It creates a “Windows.old” folder which contains files that give you the option to go back to your previous version of Windows. If you delete it, this can’t be undone and you won’t be able to roll back the previous version of Windows.
If you need to free up space, and you’re sure that files and settings are where you want them to be, you can proceed to delete it yourself.
- Press the Windows key + X and select “Settings.”
- Click on “System” and then select “Storage” from the left-hand side menu.
- Under “Storage,” click on “Temporary Files” and
- Wait for the system to scan your files.
- Select “Previous Windows installation(s)“.
- Click on “Remove files.”
Again, deleting the previous version of Windows is a one-way process, and you won’t be able to restore the previous version once it’s deleted. Therefore, make sure you have backed up all your important data before proceeding with this process.
